Finally we’ve got our first away win of the season courtesy of Clarke Carlisle’s appearance on the Channel 4 show Countdown.
He’s a confessed fan of the show and apparently never misses an episode, and he steamrollered the opposition by 89 points to 55. Now, if only we can pass this kind of effort into our away form we’ll be okay
.
Well done Clarke, you’re a credit to Burnley Football Club.

Well, I wasn’t expecting to write that title a couple of weeks ago but alas the individual formerly known as ‘God’ has decided that he stands a better chance of staying in the Premier League with Bolton.
Bolton? Seriously?
He’s burnt, knocked down and destroyed a lot of bridges with the fans after continually speaking about loyalty towards the football club and supporters; who knows if he ever realised how much the football club meant to its fans. Reading between the lines it seems that he has gone due to a lack of budget at Burnley, something he would have known before signing a contract extension last year. We don’t live beyond our means and are doing fine by not over-stretching ourselves so I don’t see the need to do this just because a manager wants to get the chequebook out.
He’s already said to our chairman that he “would only leave Burnley for Celtic or Bolton” – how true that is I have no idea but it seemed that he had the opportunity to leave for Celtic earlier but didn’t because he wanted to continue the experience with Burnley – how times change.
I think it’s safe to say that almost every fan is bitterly disappointed with the move and him personally for the way in which he’s gone about it, including me. After all that he’s said previously I would have thought he had a little more respect for both the club and the fans than to deny that he wanted the job on Thursday, to miss a press conference on Saturday and then affirm he wanted to leave on Monday.
It’s a shame Owen that you have gone about it in this way; you could have left Burnley a hero but instead you’ve rather tainted your own image. Thank you for the good times but I hope that we move onto bigger and better things without you.
Always worth remembering that no man is ever bigger than the football club and Burnley will live on to fight more and bigger battles than this; and will win them too.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Burnley FC on parade at Wembley in the 2009 Championship Play-Off Final and a photo of the hallowed ground of Turf Moor. I’m in the top half of the first photo somewhere, could be a little difficult to spot with ~36,000 other people there at the same time

Over the past year or so I’ve been trying multiple billing/management/ticket/auto-provisioning systems to try and find one that a) actually works and b) fits my needs. It’s been a struggle and I’ve been through ClientExec, Modern/Parallels Plesk Billing, WHMCS and others before stumbling upon Blesta.
Without going into great technicolour detail we required a simple system which allowed the client to provision a hosting account, bring their own domain (we currently don’t offer domain registration for various reasons), collect payment and then set-up the account on our servers and throw the client both billing and Plesk login details without any interaction from our side. Seems simple? Most systems make it like open heart surgery, with a million different options for every single step.
What a revelation Blesta was, billing done right. I’m not going to go into a hideously complex and detailed review mainly because I don’t have the time but suffice to say if you are on the look-out for a new billing system or are slowly starting to feel the need to throw your current one out of the window I’d encourage you to give Blesta a try.
We’ve currently got it running the Plesk module to auto-provision services while payments are processed by PayPal or offline (bank transfer, cheque etc.) depending on the client. It’s been incredibly easy to set-up, and the one support ticket that I dropped in was answered within a few minutes. At the moment it’s just doing hosting but billing and invoicing for service jobs shouldn’t be a problem either, and certainly well within it’s capabilities. A big plus for me is that Blesta actually uses the domain template packages on the Plesk server, and doesn’t require you to set limits within the actual billing software.
It’s not often I write nice things about billing systems, mainly because most of them are just epic amounts of fail and hideously complex to use. However, Blesta isn’t, so go and give it a try.

After over three years as a part of the phpBB modifications team I have decided to move on and have thus departed the team.
Unfortunately time was the main cause of the issue; I simply didn’t have enough of it to be able to commit fully to the role, and it wasn’t sustainable for me to continue in the team with activity level the way it was.
I wish the entire MOD team well in their future endeavours and hope to have the time to drop back into the phpBB.com fora occasionally to keep tabs on the project and how it continues to develop.
